I AM 杨婧 and I am translating the film into Chinese
This is a series of posts by people who are going to host screenings of I AM BREATHING on MND/ALS Global Awareness Day.
I am Jing and I am translating I AM BREATHING into Chinese for the Beijing screening on Global Screening Day, hosted by Electric Shadows.
The first event in which I worked as a translator and interpreter for Electric Shadows is the European Union Film Festival Shorts Programme in Beijing, I was deeply impressed by the excellent short films. Several months after the EUFF, I cooperated with Electric Shadows and JUE for the Asian Cinema Week. I had lived in Beijing for six years but it was my first time to watch films about some Asian countries that we are less familiar with, such as Mongolia. I was deeply impressed by how Electric Shadows brings people together through art works and provides a stage for people from different cultural backgrounds to share and communicate together. Therefore, when Vicky Mohieddeen asked me whether I could translate the subtitles of I AM BREATHING as a volunteer, I said yes. It is a pleasure to work with Electric Shadows, especially for a charity aim.
Electric Shadows is a non-profit organisation helping to shape the evolution of public cinema in China by programming beautiful film events and expanding the cinema into galleries, rooftops, deserts and discos. Founded in January 2009 it has since grown to become one of Beijing’s most prominent independent film organisations working with the most exciting local cultural spaces and festivals, helping to bring cinematic gems to every corner of the ever-shifting physical and cultural landscape of Beijing. Electric Shadows was founded by Vicky Mohieddeen, alumna of the Edinburgh College of Art and the Scottish Documentary Institute.
Electric Shadows will show I AM BREATHING on 21 June in the Zajia Lab at the Hong En Daoist Temple in Bejing. Details and RSVP here.
Can you also host a screening on 21 June, wherever you are?

It is not too late to become part of Global Screening Day
Our aim is to have at least 100 screenings of I AM BREATHING on MND/ALS Global Awareness Day, 21 June (or shortly after).
This is made possible by people in 25 countries. Some of them are awareness campaigners, others are researchers or health professionals. Some of them are members of the documentary community The D-Word, exploring collaborative distribution. Others get involved simply because they've come across a film the world needs to see.
You can be one of these wonderful people. The video here explains how you can set up your own screening.
In addition, the CINEMAS button lets you search for screenings near you (not just in cinemas of course). And the HOST button lets you book your own screening, from a private gathering to a large public screening.
Please share this player in any way you can, using the Share and Embed buttons on the top right of the player.
If you are a fundraiser for ALS/MND/ELA yourself, we can set you up as special partner, and 25% of the funds raised through a player you embed will go to your own organisation. Contact us to arrange this.
I AM RACHAEL CARTER and I was Neil's friend
This is a series of posts by people who are going to host screenings of I AM BREATHING on MND/ALS Global Awareness Day.
I am Rachael Carter, and together with Siobhan Morton, I am organising a screening in London.
I met Neil whilst working at the same architectural firm in London Bridge, he very quickly became a good friend, mainly because he was such fun to be around. Neil was warm, extremely funny, and charismatic, and my memories of the time we spent together are just filled with so much laughter.
Neil still provides so much inspiration for me and all the people that knew and loved him – he was one in a million.
Losing Neil four years ago hit me hard, I vowed from that day on that I would do all I could to raise awareness about MND and as Neil wanted, to spread the word.
For the Global Screening Day of I AM BREATHING myself and other friends of Neil’s will be hosting a screening at the Cinema Museum. Details and tickets here.
The Cinema Museum has kindly offered to host this event for free – all proceeds will be going to the MND Association.
Can you also host a screening on 21 June, wherever you are?
In the Telegraph: Every Breath I Take
If you are in the UK, go and buy a copy of the Daily Telegraph today, for a four-page article in the Telegraph Magazine about Neil Platt and a certain film that was made about him.
I AM EROLL BILIBANI and we are showing the film in Kosovo
This is a series of posts by people who are going to host screenings of I AM BREATHING on MND/ALS Global Awareness Day.
I am Eroll, and along with Veton, Nita, Aliriza, Samir and others from DokuFest, we are showing the film in Kosovo. We run the International Documentary and Short Film Festival DokuFest, held annually in the city of Prizren.
We are showing the film on Global Screening Day in one of the unique venues, an old open air cinema, to raise awareness among the Kosovar society and young people in particular about motor neurone disease (MND), this fatal disease that is unknown to most of the people here.
It is of utmost importance for all of us globally to increase awareness of this disease. We hope that through this screening, more people find out about MND, and this heartbreaking story reaches out to all decision-makers and potential donors that could contribute to further research. We are glad that DokuFest can contribute by showing this excellent film.
We are going to screen the film on 21 June at SHKA in Prizren. Details and RSVP here.

I AM PARAMITA DAS and I am showing the film in Kolkata
This is a series of posts by people who are going to host screenings of I AM BREATHING on MND/ALS Global Awareness Day.
I am Paramita and I'm showing I AM BREATHING in India, as this film is about an intense dialogue between life and death, an intimate way of knowing what makes us human, and a strong portrayal of determination of human mind and adaptability.
This film tells us about the humour and honesty of a human mind facing a terminal illness like motor neurone disease. I AM BREATHING is 'meaning of life'. This film needs to be seen not only for generating awareness of MND in India but also for its philosophy of sublime even when life is being nibbled to death. It is a breathing space for people across the globe to feel the grace of life.
I am breathing as you are breathing. I am breathing as we are breathing.
The Film and Television Institute of India screened I AM BREATHING earlier this month in Pune, and the Department of Film Studies at Jadavpur University will show the film on Global Screening Day in Kolkata.
Can you also host a screening on 21 June, wherever you are?
I AM JUDY KIBINGE and I am showing the film in Nairobi
This is a series of posts by people who are going to host screenings of I AM BREATHING on MND/ALS Global Awareness Day.
I am Judy Kibinge and I am a Kenyan filmmaker and the founder of DOCUBOX, a newly established documentary film fund for East Africa. I believe that few things can illumintate what it is to be human as well as a good observational documentary.
I recall a few decades back attending my older brothers graduation at Dartmouth and being haunted for years by something one of the speakers said. He asked what a tiny speck of dust might say as it floats towards a surface, one of billions of specks of identical flecks of dust:
“Remember me,” says the dust. “Remember me.”
The D-Word partners with I AM BREATHING for collaborative distribution
The D-Word, a worldwide online community of documentary professionals, has come on board as a partner for worldwide screenings of I AM BREATHING on 21 June.
In a unique collaborative distribution project, members of The D-Word are working with the team behind I AM BREATHING to organise events in more than 50 different places. This boost comes in addition to countless screenings already being planned by supporters of the film and MND/ALS groups for a Global Screening Day.
Founded in 1999, The D-Word is home to more than 10,000 members in some 120 countries. Driven by a spirit of camaraderie, it has become the leading online community to discuss all aspects of documentary filmmaking.
